Fisher Towers Trail
Utah
Moab, Utah, is famous for the two fantastic national parks in the area, Arches and Canyonlands, but you shouldn't overlook the other recreational areas nearby. One such area northeast of Moab is Fisher Towers.
A 2.2-mile (3.5-kilometer) graded dirt road leads from Utah State Route 128, near mile marker 21, to the Fisher Towers site. You can tour the towers by a moderately difficult out-and-back hike of 4.4 miles (7.1 kilometers) round trip with an elevation gain of 650 feet (198 meters).
Although this area has nothing close to the crowds that pack the national parks, the scenery is excellent. The rock formations are also popular with climbers, and one tower, Ancient Art, was featured in a Citi Bank TV commercial.
Here are ten photos from the Fisher Towers Trail, which is managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Moab Field Office.
The sandstone towers are brown, but glow orange and reddish with a setting sun, as the photos show. So, a late afternoon visit is highly recommended.
