Angel Statue and the Moon
Bushnell Park, Hartford, Connecticut
Statues of angels crown the two towers of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch at Bushnell Park in Hartford, Connecticut. The bronze angels were sculped by Lloyd Glasson (1931-2014) to replace the original terra cotta angels, which were removed after one was struck by lightning in 1974 and later destroyed along with the other by a fire in a storage shed in 1985.
The photo below, which shows Archangel Gabriel with trumpets atop the western tower, was taken during a full moon on July 19 from the west side of the park, approximately 600 feet (183 meters) away.
